The Percolators' website

The Percs were created by a shared love of traditional music and friendships that began more than 25 years ago. Each band member is a multi-instrumentalist who brings over 30 years of experience to playing traditional music. The band features voices, fiddles, banjos, guitars, and mandolins. The Percolators’ expansive repertoire spans a rich variety of traditional and contemporary fiddle tunes from a variety of North American and Celtic traditions, with some songs tossed in for good measure.

Two members of the group, Joe Herrmann and Joe Fallon, have played together for over 20 years in the Critton Hollow String Band, performing at major festivals throughout the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom. Larry Edelman and C.W. Abbott have played music together for 25 years in a variety of bands. C.W. currently plays in one of New England’s premier contra dance bands, The Groovemongers, while Larry fiddles with Colorado’s Poultry in Motion and the Soda Rock Ramblers in addition to teaching and calling dances across North America. Rounding out the band is Seattle multi-instrumentalist David Cahn, who has performed and recorded with top bands over the past twenty years. The band members have performed on more than a dozen recordings and have toured throughout the United States, and in Canada, Europe, and Asia.

C.W. Abbott (mandolin, guitar, jug, nose flute) has been playing music for almost 40 years. His eclectic approach has led him to pursue a variety of musical styles including honky-tonk, country and western, jug band, rhythm and blues, Appalachian, New England, Quebecois, Klezmer, and even show tunes. CW primarily plays guitar and mandolin, but has also been known to play gut bucket bass, fiddle, pedal steel, electric bass, jug, and kazoo. A veteran of many bands, CW currently plays with the Groovemongers, one of the USA’s most popular contra dance bands.

Larry Edelman (dance caller, mandolin, fiddle, guitar)has been playing traditional music for more than 25 years. He has played guitar and mandolin in several bands including Devilish Merry, and the Percolators and currently plays driving fiddle in two Colorado-based bands, Poultry in Motion and the Soda Rock Ramblers. He appears on recordings on the Wildebeest, Kicking Mule, and Piggysnout labels.

Larry is also the band's dance caller and teacher. He calls a variety of traditional dances from different regions of the USA including square dances, contras, circles and some unusual formations. He is an avid dance researcher and has studied traditional dances of the USA. Larry has traveled widely throughout the United States and in Europe, delighting both novice and veteran dancers with his humor, enthusiasm, skillful teaching, knowledge of dance history, and colorful calling.

Joe Fallon (guitar, banjo, bass) began his musical journey playing guitar as a teenager and listening the music of Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. In the early 70s he was a staple of the Boston traditional music scene playing bass with various bands. He was a member of the influential Backwoods Band and joined The Critton Hollow String Band in 1981. Joe sings, plays bass, banjo, guitar, and most recently button accordion. Joe appears on four Critton Hollow recordings.

Joe Herrmann (fiddle, banjo, mandolin and guitar) is a talented multi-instrumentalist who has been making music for over 30 years. He is well-known in traditional music circles for his singing and instrumental prowess. He founded The Critton Holow String Band with his wife, Sam Herrmann, in 1975, and has played at festivals, concert halls and dance camps throughout the U.S. and Canada. He also performed with The Fiddle Puppet Dancers for 16 years and with them toured the U.S., the U.K., Canada, and Japan. Joe has taught banjo and fiddle workshops at numerous music camps and has five Critton Hollow recordings to his credit.

David Cahn (guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, bass, and accordion) hails from Seattle, Washington and is a versatile instrumentalist, playing in numerous bands over the past twenty years. He's toured with Rodney Miller, and appears on two of his CDs which include several of David's original tunes. He's also recorded with Clyde Moody, Charlie Moore, Wade Mainer, Helen Carter, and Mark Simos, and is featured on the Rounder recording "Young Fogies II" with his old-time band "The Queen City Bulldogs" (1st place, Clifftop, 1994). He's taught at the Puget Sound Guitar Workshop, The Festival of American Fiddle tunes, Pinewoods, Augusta, and many other camps and festivals around the country.
