The Loy Foundation presents
Mollie O'Brien
& Rich Moore appearConcert

Mollie O'Brien & Rich Moore
Mollie O’Brien sings. Does she ever. Jazz, R&B, blues, gospel, southern mountain traditional — you name it. And she approaches each with an ease that makes you think she was steeped in the style since the fi rst time a note left her throat.

Called one of roots music’s best interpreters and singers, Mollie's voice has
described as “smooth,” “smoky,” “powerful,” and “bright and bold as sheet lightning.” Once you’ve heard it, you’re hooked.

Mollie is the sister of Grammy-winner Tim O'Brien, with whom she has recorded three duet albums. The two grew up with 3 other siblings in Wheeling, WV, where she was exposed to all sorts of music, from the Wheeling Symphony to Count Basie and Ray Charles. She and Tim performed in churches and coffeehouses before she moved to New York City, where she discovered the irresistible pull of swing music and the stylistic stretches required for jazz. Eventually in 1980 she moved to Colorado, where brother Tim had already staked out territory in the booming music scene. She performed with him as a duo and formed her own R&B band.

Mollie and Tim have been featured onstage for the WV Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies the last two years. She has worked with Garrison Keillor and Robin & Linda Williams (who will perform in Romney, January 9, 2011) as the Hopeful Gospel Quartet, with her own five-piece band, and as a duo with husband Rich Moore, who will accompany her in Romney. .

Admission $14 under 12 free. Tickets available at the door.
